Huawei announced the replacement of its legacy ERP system with its MetaERP system, over which you have full control. Huawei held the MetaERP Awards ceremony to recognize individuals and teams that have made critical contributions to this project. Under the title “Heroes fighting to cross the Dadu River», the event was held at the company’s Xi Liu Bei Po campus in Dongguan (China).
He software Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is the most important business management IT system. In 1996, Huawei introduced the MRP II manufacturing resource planning system, which it later extended to the ERP system after several iterative upgrades. The old ERP system has been the main system supporting Huawei’s business operations and rapid growth for more than 20 years. It has supported the efficiency of Huawei’s operations, which generate billions of dollars a year in more than 170 countries and regions around the world.
In 2019, Huawei began to face bigger external pressure and business challenges. The company decided to develop the fully self-controlled MetaERP system to replace the previous ERP system. This transformation project has been the most expensive and complex that Huawei has carried out to date.
Over the past three years, Huawei has invested a significant amount of resources and assigned several thousand people to the realization of this project, as well as collaborating with industry and ecosystem partners to overcome the associated challenges. This new ultra-high-scale, future-oriented, cloud-native MetaERP system has already been implemented and has replaced the previous ERP system.
Currently, MetaERP manages 100% of Huawei’s business situations and 80% of its business volume. MetaERP has already passed the tests of monthly, quarterly and annual settlements without generating any type of error, delay or need for accounting correction.
Tao Jingwen, Board Member and Chairman of Huawei’s Quality, Business Process and IT Management Department, commented, “More than three years ago, we disconnected from the old ERP system and other central management and operations systems. Since then, we have not only been able to develop our own MetaERP system, but also manage change and demonstrate its capabilities. Today, we are pleased to announce that we have overcome that hurdle. We have survived!”
Huawei has complete and absolute control over MetaERP, which has been developed with other Huawei systems such as EulerOS and GaussDB. Huawei has also worked with partners to incorporate advanced technologies such as cloud-native architecture, metadata-based multi-tenant architecture, and real-time intelligence into the MetaERP system, significantly improving service efficiency and operational quality.
Huawei’s guiding principles are to build the simplest possible architecture with the highest possible quality to deliver the best possible experience at the lowest possible cost. Huawei will continue to collaborate with partners in a wide variety of fields, including ERP and PLM, to develop more efficient and secure core business systems that are not subject to restrictions of any kind.
Sabrina Meng, Rotating President and CFO of Huawei, said: “Technological advances require creative spirit and years of experience. And what is most important, an open mind that drives progress in our way of thinking. We could not have built MetaERP without the support of our partners. Innovation is only possible with an open mind and thriving is only possible when we work together.”
