Chess comes to the headquarters of the Russian Museum Collection in Malaga with the city’s XVII International Open. This event includes two official tournaments: the I Magistral Ciudad de Málaga and the XVII International Open sub 2400 of Málaga 2023. In addition, the inclusive Chess Tournament will be heldwith 5 ONCE players, and two tournaments for children with about 20 players per tournament.
Chess players from Spain, Ukraine, Hungary, Sweden, Venezuela, France and Cuba will be present at the Russian Museum. Among the notable players are the Ukrainian teacher Alexander Kovchan and the Cuban teacher Lelys Martínez.
The games start on November 7 and end on the 12th in the case of the Magistral and in the case of the International Open they will begin on Friday the 10th and will continue until Sunday the 12th. . The tournaments have the collaboration of the Malaga City Council, through the areas of Sports and Culture and the Provincial Council of Malaga.
Requirements and awards
The I Magistral will be developed with the Schiller system, according to the Swiss-Manager program, with 9 rounds. Participants must be qualified. The pace will be 90 minutes for each player plus a 30-second increase per play and there will be prizes for the three players on the winning team.
At the XVII Open Internacional sub 2400 City of Málaga, Spanish participants must be federated and have the 2023 license in force, while those with a foreign flag must have a FIDE code. There will be a maximum of 100 players. The rounds will begin on November 10, at 10:30 a.m., and the prize giving will be on Sunday the 12th, at 3:00 p.m.
The competition will be governed by the Swiss system, according to the Vegachess program, with 7 rounds. The pace for each player will be 60 minutes plus a 30-second increase per play. The range of prizes oscillates between 1,000 euros and a trophy for the first in the general classification and 50 euros, with a trophy, which will be awarded to the 1st sub 2000; under 1800; under 1600; the first local player; and the first in the adapted category, all of them with their trophy. There will also be prizes from 700 and 55 euros for those classified between second and tenth place.

The cost of registration ranges between 35 euros from general to free for qualified players (GM, WGM, IM, WIM), 30 euros for federated members in Malaga and 25 euros for under 14 players.
