The 28th legislative term in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) begins today. In the first session chaired by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, the deputies take the oath in turn.
CAN ATALAY IS NOT AT THE CEREMONY
Can Atalay, a prisoner in the Gezi trial, who was elected as a Hatay deputy from the Workers’ Party of Turkey (TİP), is not present at the swearing-in ceremony today as the file regarding his release was not sent to the relevant department at the Supreme Court.
“THEY CANNOT SAW BECAUSE HE IS HOLDED”
Deputies take the oath according to the alphabetical order of the provinces. When it was Hatay’s turn, there were interesting moments. When Can Atalay was called to the podium to take the oath, the voice rising from the TİP rows drew attention. TİP Deputy Sera Kadıgil called out to the podium saying, “He can’t swear right now because he’s being held hostage.”
