After the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Syria, Russia and Iran today in Moscow, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “Participants also asked the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs to prepare a roadmap in coordination with the Defense Ministries and Intelligence units of the four countries for the advancement of relations between Turkey and Syria. Ministers noted that the exchange of views at the meeting took place in a positive and constructive atmosphere, and they also agreed to continue high-level contacts and technical talks in the current four-way format in the coming period,” said the statement.
The meeting of Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Iranian Foreign Minister Hüseyin Emir Abdullahiyan and Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad in Moscow ended today. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs released the joint statement made after the meeting within the scope of the normalization of Turkey-Syria relations. The statement noted:
“The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hüseyin Emir Abdullahiyan and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic Faisal Mikdad met in Moscow on May 10. The Ministers discussed the relations between Turkey and Syria. They had a detailed and open discussion on various aspects of the revitalization of inter-state relations.
Participants reaffirmed their commitment to Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and the fight against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, in accordance with UNSC Resolution 2254 and the official declarations issued within the framework of the ‘Astana Format’. The importance of increasing international assistance to Syria was underlined in terms of ensuring the voluntary, safe and dignified return of Syrians to their homeland and facilitating post-conflict reconstruction.
The participants also decided to instruct the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs to prepare a roadmap in coordination with the Ministries of Defense and Intelligence units of the four countries for the advancement of relations between Turkey and Syria. Ministers noted that the exchange of views at the meeting took place in a positive and constructive atmosphere, and also agreed to continue high-level contacts and technical talks in the current four-way format in the coming period.
