The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, as well as the DGT, has given the go-ahead for Ford to activate the system in Spain BlueCruise, a type of semi-autonomous driving that allows hands-free driving with your eyes on the road on highways and expressways. The company has confirmed that this technology will be available, for the moment, in the Mustang Mach-E under a monthly subscription.
With Spain, there are now three countries in the European Union that have allowed Ford to enable its BlueCruise system. It is also available in the United Kingdom and Germany. In the case of Spain, for the moment, only those customers with a Ford Mustang Mach-E purchased on or after October 12, 2023 They will be able to activate the technology through a monthly subscription of 24.99 euros per month. Ford affirms that there is no type of permanence. Therefore, it will be possible to unsubscribe and renew the subscription at any time; for example, in the summer months, when more trips are made.
The company, on the other hand, highlights that users can try the BlueCruise system free of charge for 90 daysas long as they activate it within the first year from the purchase of the vehicle.
This is how the BlueCruise technology that Ford has activated in Spain works
Ford’s hands-free driving system, in particular, allows the vehicle to drive itself, sno need for the driver to have his hands on the wheel and feet on the pedals, although he must have his eyes on the road at all times. The technology, however, will only be activated in the Blue Zones, which are sections of highways and highways in which the DGT has allowed the use of this system.
BlueCruise works thanks to sensors integrated into the vehicle that are capable of detecting lane markings and “changing traffic conditions,” Ford says. For example, the flow of vehicles, speed limits, etc. This allows, in this case, the Mustang Mach-E control steering, vehicle lane position, and acceleration and braking. The technology is also capable of detecting if, for example, there is a traffic jam or traffic jam, so that it brakes and accelerates the vehicle automatically, without the driver having to do anything.
Drivers who have a Ford BlueCruise subscription will be able to activate the technology through the driver assistance settings menu. The vehicle will first ask you to keep your hands on the wheel and look at the road. Subsequently, it will issue a warning indicating that the driver can now release his or her hands. Drivers will, of course, be able to regain control of the vehicle at any time and use BlueCruise again by taking their hands off the wheel again.
