Fans threw popcorn at Neymar’s head

After 2015, Brazil is unstoppable at home. Especially in World Cup Qualifiers. But Brazil did not win against Venezuela in the end despite having 71 percent possession of the ball at home.

Despite taking the lead early in the second half, the Selecao were held to a draw by Venezuela’s last minute goal. When Neymar was returning to the tunnel after the match today, a fan poured popcorn on his head from above. After that, Neymar reacted by standing for a while.

Brazil drew 1-1 with Venezuela in the 2026 World Cup Latin America qualifier at the Arena Pantanal on Friday morning. Eduardo Bello equalized for Venezuela after Gabriel put Brazil ahead.

In the 48th minute of the second half, the goalkeeper stopped Neymar’s shot with his fist after taking out space with his feet. Two minutes later, Brazil, who won two consecutive matches, scored the desired goal. Gabriel found the net with a swift header from Neymar’s corner.

Cornered Venezuela turned around brilliantly with Belo’s superb goal. Bello headed an overhead kick from Jefferson Savarino’s cross. Eilson had nothing to do below the post. Neymar could not score in the rest of the time. It interrupted Brazil’s winning streak in the current selection.

An unexpected incident happened after the match that day. On the way back to the dressing room, Neymar was attacked by the audience. A spectator threw popcorn at him. Neymar got angry at that and was seen exchanging words with the audience. Things didn’t get too heated though.

This is the first time Brazil have lost points in the CONMEBOL region of World Cup qualifying. They won easily in the first two matches. As a result of the loss of points, the Selecao remained second in the table. In another match of the day, Argentina topped the table by beating Paraguay 1-0.
