The Spanish tennis player Alejandro Davidovich beat Argentine Tomás Martín Etcheverry this Tuesday by a double 6-3 in its premiere at the Cincinnati tournament (United States), seventh Masters 1,000 of the season, to now meet with the Serbian Novak Djokovic.
‘Foki’, who shone in the Toronto tournament last week until falling in the semifinal round, started the next North American date of the summer on the right foot, towards the US Open. As in the Canadian Masters 1,000, the man from Malaga had no victories in Cincy until this week, with a first win in his pocket.
The match had ‘break’ options for both in the first set, but the Spaniard took much better advantage of his for an initial 4-0 that he did not waste. Etcheverry stood up at the restartwith this time an exchange of ‘breaks’ in the second.
Davidovich, in a great moment
However, Davidovich added a new break in the fifth game to take the lead again towards a debut and victory on the fast track. The Spaniard will be Djokovic’s first opponent in the second round of Cincywhere the Serbian returns after falling in the Wimbledon final a month ago against a Carlos Alcaraz from whom he wants to snatch the number one in the world.
The man from Malaga is still in good shape after reaching his best career ranking (23rd) and being called up to the Spanish Davis Cup team for the first round in Valencia next September.
