As the clashes between the army and the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (HDK) continue in Sudan, the Sudanese Red Cross announced that the number of dead and wounded has risen rapidly.
Sudan Red Cross made a statement today and announced that the clashes that started between the army and the Rapid Support Forces on Saturday, April 15, continue and the death toll is rising rapidly. Emphasizing that the hospitals in the capital Khartoum are experiencing power and water cuts, the authorities pointed out that the medical supplies also decreased at a ‘dangerous extent’.
Sudan Red Cross requested humanitarian aid by stating that Sudan Red Crescent had warned that the health system would collapse. Switzerland-based International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), on the other hand, made a press release yesterday, noting that the security in some parts of Darfur has deteriorated and an ICRC office in Nyala was looted. ‘DEAD AND INJURED ARE ON THE STREETS’
ICRC Africa Director Patrick Youssef said: “It is extremely sad to hear the news of civilian casualties and bodies left on the streets of Khartoum. They must be collected and treated with dignity. We call for immediate unhindered humanitarian access.”
