CABEI approved US$1,522 million to Central America and the Dominican Republic

He Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) approved in the first quarter of 2023 a total of US$1,522.2 million (€1,367.87 million at today’s exchange rate) for initiatives aimed at human development and social inclusion, sustainable competitiveness and regional integration, the agency reported this Friday. regional.

The resources approved by CABEI between January and March of this year are destined to finance eight projects for the benefit of the population in countries such as Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic and Argentina, the bank’s press office said in a statement.

“As the most important multilateral in the region, at CABEI we continue to support our partner countries in programs that guarantee the well-being of the population and the construction of a region of opportunities,” said the executive president of the organization, Dante Mossi.

CABEI plans to approve new operations for up to 3.3 billion dollars during 2023, said Mossi, a Honduran national.

Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic are the countries to which CABEI has approved the most loans so far in 2023, which represent 39% and 32% of the total approved resources, respectively, according to the statement.

Simultaneously, CABEI has been disbursing previously approved loans, which total US$1.735 billion in the first three months of the year.

The disbursements are aimed at the continuation or completion of programs and projects in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Argentina and Colombia, it added.

CABEI maintains “its financial soundness and ample liquidity”, which is demonstrated by maintaining “the best credit risk in Latin America, with ratings from Standard & Poor’s (AA), Moody’s (Aa3), and Japan Credit Rating (AA)”.

The organization was founded by Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica in 1960, which were later joined by the Dominican Republic, Panama and Belize, and from outside the region. Mexico, Spain, Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Korea and China itself.
