BCB emergency meeting on captain issue

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) may announce the name of the ODI captain of the national team tomorrow (Tuesday) at the Board of Directors meeting at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. With Tamim Iqbal out due to injury, the captaincy has become vacant.

Test and T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan is the frontrunner in the race to replace Tamim. BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon said, selecting this all-rounder as captain is an easy matter.

Liton Das, who led the team to a historic 2-1 series win against India last year, is also in the race to be the captain. Liton was Tamim’s deputy. All-rounder Mehdi Hasan Miraj’s name has also appeared in the list of captains at the last moment.

Earlier, Shakib had led the ODI team twice. Shakib led the team in a total of 50 ODIs from 2009 to 2011 and 2015 to 2017, winning 23 of them. He is in the third place for Bangladesh in terms of wins. Mashrafe bin Mortuza tops the list with maximum 50 wins. Habibul Bashar is in third place with 29 wins.
