Arsenal’s release from the Everton curse

Substitute Leandro Trossard’s only goal ensured title hopes Arsenal ended a six-year wait with a Premier League victory over Everton. The match was won by 1-0 goal difference.

However, Mikel Arteta’s side had to struggle for their first win at Goodison Park since 2007. Belgian forward Trossard’s goal midway through the second half secured Arsenal a comfortable victory. However, the Gunners did not play up to their expectations throughout the match.

But Arteta’s side picked up a fourth win in five matches, keeping pace with Everton’s pace. Before the match, the Gunners boss warned the players that Everton will have to match the physical ability of their opponents in order to beat them.

Arsenal face another big test tomorrow after beating Manchester United in their last game before the international break. But Trossard’s goal ultimately kept the north London club unbeaten in fourth place in the table. They are two points behind Manchester City at the top of the table.

Arteta said, ‘It’s been a long time since we won here. We played a great match today. I did not discount anything. We dominated the whole match. The number of goals could have been greater. Everton could not create any chances. This victory is a great relief. Tossard made the fate of the match with a great goal.’

Winless Everton are still in the relegation zone after five matches. Everton, who have narrowly escaped relegation in the last two seasons, do not want to be in danger anymore.
