Apple would announce ‘several new Macs’ at WWDC 2023

The WWDC 2023 is just around the corner and it is expected to be one of the editions most loaded with novelties in recent years. The highlight of the Apple event will be the launch of its mixed reality glasses, but there will also be an important place for the introduction of new Macs.

And I use the plural well, since, according to Mark Gurmanof Bloomberg, Apple could announce “several” new computers during the keynote inaugural. This is already generating quite a bit of speculation as to what the teams in question might be.

Until now, the strongest indications for the launch of new Macs at WWDC 2023 pointed to the MacBook Air with a 15-inch screen. It will adopt the design we already saw in the 13-inch version with an M2 chip that was introduced last year, and is expected to have a similar technical specification table.

As for what other Macs we may see next Monday, the picture is a bit blurrier. It is clear that the most anticipated is the Mac Pro with Apple Silicon, from which news has been awaited for a long time. Let’s not forget that John Ternus, Apple’s head of hardware, mentioned it in passing at the March 2022 event; almost like trying to prove that the company hadn’t forgotten. However, since then we have not heard anything else.

At the time it was said that the apple had discarded the Mac Pro with M1 chip to focus on the version with M2. However, at the end of 2022 it became known that, although Apple planned to launch a new version this year, it would do so with an M2 Ultra processor and not with the rumored —and bestial— M2 Extreme. WWDC 2023 could be the ideal space for it to finally see the light.

Macs with M2 and M3 at WWDC 2023?

If we assume that Apple will introduce the 15-inch MacBook Air and the new Mac Pro at WWDC 2023, we are only talking about two teams. That is far from the definition of “several” new computers that Mark Gurman has raised. But, What other teams could we get to see?

Today, it is an impossible question to answer reliably. Although there is an interesting space to play with the assumptions. The same journalist from Bloomberg He has been talking for some time about how Apple is stepping on the accelerator with the development of its M3 chips. In fact, some specifications of what could be the entry M3 Pro were recently leaked.

Will WWDC 2023 give us a first look at the M3-powered Macs of the future? If it really were so, all arrows should point towards the iMac, which is crying out for an update. Let’s not forget that the latest version of said equipment was launched in 2021, with the first generation of Apple Silicon, and it has long been speculated that it would skip the M2 step.

With the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro already upgraded to the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, and with the long-awaited evolution of the Mac Mini consummated earlier this year, there aren’t many other options left on the table. let’s not forget that There will be no Mac Studio update this year.and it is even rumored that Apple would abandon it to focus on the Mac Pro.

It will remain to be seen what happens. It is strange to think that Apple wants to use WWDC 2023 to announce products with M2 and M3, without a doubt. Nevertheless, this year’s edition promises to be a real box of surprises. And let’s not forget that, in addition to Macs and mixed reality glasses, great software developments are expected. Especially with iOS 17 and watchOS 10.
