Ancelotti: “Everybody thinks Madrid is dead, but we’re going to get ahead”

Carlo Ancelotti doesn’t seem overly concerned about Real Madrid’s recent run. Well, he’s actually a man who never seems too concerned about anything, although inside he probably is. But facing the outside he retains that imperturbable rictus that characterizes him and claims that his team will get ahead, while he warns, with a challenging point: “Everybody thinks Real Madrid is dead”.

“Not being at the top is quite normal. We have had several injuries that were not foreseeable and that have affected us a little more, but not being at the top is quite normal“, the Italian coach pointed out a day before Madrid plays the pass to the quarterfinals of the Cup against Villarreal, a rival who already defeated him in LaLiga 10 days ago, also at the Estadio de La Cerámica.

Ancelotti did not like, at least in appearance, that they are trying to find a pattern to the current downturn. He was asked if he found similarities with the one from last year, which he himself recognized, or with the one from 2015, in the second season of his first stage at the Bernabéu. “Coincidence, we will also go well this season”He pointed out, recalling, without going into details, that the downturn last year ended with Madrid lifting LaLiga and the Champions League.

Five goals given away

The recipe is not to lose confidence in a team that until November has done very well. In a difficult moment, you have to carefully evaluate what is happening, be as objective as possible and do things as simply as possible. In football, the easiest thing is to defend well”, continued the Italian coach, pointing out that what worries him the most is the defensive plot.

And it is that Carletto recognizes that his team has not performed well in defense in recent games. He actually said that they have “given away” five of the last six goals concededonly removing from the list the one he received against Villarreal after the controversial penalty by the hand of Alaba.

A Praise, by the way, who will not be available this Thursday either, like Tchouaméni, Lucas Vázquez and Carvajal. In the absence of his two trusted right-backs, Ancelotti takes Vinicius Tobias, a Brazilian on loan to Castilla from Shakhtar, to Villarreal, as well as Odriozola, whom he barely has. In any case, Nacho has tickets to occupy that position: “He is a very reliable defender who can bring us many good things.”
