Fernando Alonso is cautious and, in turn, optimistic in the face of a Spanish GP in which he is looking for the sixth podium of the season and dreams of achieving the 33rd victory of his career, just in the same scenario that in 2013 he achieved his last victory in Formula 1.
Only 170 thousandths separated Alonso from Max Verstappen after Free 2 and with Nico Hulkenberg 1 tenth behind. “We are so close to one lap that I think a couple of tenths can put you in a completely different position. in qualifying, so you don’t have to read the times too much”, explained the Asturian pilot.
Regarding the work carried out on the first day, he explained that “we went through our test program in the first practice session and learned a few things about the prototype tires that will debut at Silverstone, with the track being a bit slower than we expected. The updates we have introduced are helping to improve the performance of the car and so far we’re happy with them, but we’ll see where we’ll be tomorrow when everyone pushes.”
The atmosphere that is breathed is exceptional. The fans have turned to Fernando Alonso and he is enthusiastically living this new stage of his career. In this regard, he remarked that “many of the grandstands of the circuit are green and Aston Martin merchandising is becoming very popular. The fans have behaved in an incredible way and it is great to see their support. Hopefully we can give them a good show”.
