After the father, the ODI World Cup is now in the hands of the son

Mighty Australia beat India by a huge margin of 6 wickets in the 13th edition of the ICC ODI World Cup. With this, Ajira won the ODI World Cup title for a record sixth time.

Geoff Marsh won the ODI World Cup for Australia in 1987, which was Australia’s first ODI World Cup. And in 2023, his son Mitchell Marsh won the ODI World Cup. The father-son duo witnessed the rare feat of winning the World Cup, a first in cricket history.

An important member of Australia’s current team is all-rounder Mitchell Marsh. His father Geoff Marsh was also a key member of the Aussie team at one time. Geoff Marsh has played 50 Tests and 117 ODIs for the country.

Geoff won the World Cup title for Australia in 1987. And Mitchell won the 2023 World Cup. Interestingly, father and son both won the World Cup on Indian soil. 36 years ago, Geoff Marsh celebrated the trophy by defeating England at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Now his son Mitchell Marsh celebrated the trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India.

However, Geoff Marsh and Mitchell Marsh raised their names in 2021 in the feat of winning the World Cup for father and son. Mitchell Marsh was a key member of Australia’s T20 World Cup victory over New Zealand in Dubai that year. However, Mitchell Marsh’s dream of joining his father in winning the ODI World Cup has been fulfilled this time.

However, father and son may have some regrets. Because Mitchell Marsh’s elder brother Shaun Marsh could not win the ODI World Cup. Shaun Marsh was in the Australian team in 2019. However, Australia were eliminated from the semi-finals by losing to England.
