ADM will support Banco de Alimentos in increasing distribution and snacks of products

The Food Bank of the Dominican Republic and the company specialized in animal and human nutrition Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), signed a cooperation agreement with a view to eradicating poverty and bringing hunger to zero in the country.

Through this agreement, ADM will contribute the necessary resources for the acquisition of a refrigeration and freezing system that will allow the Bank to exponentially increase its capacity to handle and distribute dairy, meat and agricultural products, as well as all inputs that requires maintaining an adequate cold chain.

The event was led by Domingo Legua and Julinna Staffeld, founder and executive director of the Dominican Republic Food Bank, respectively.

Meanwhile, from ADM they made an appearance: Fernando Mena, general manager for the Caribbean; Jennifer Ballinger, Director of the ADM Cares Foundation; and Aurora Adame, Director of Corporate Affairs for Northern Latin America.

“One of our main commitments is to eradicate hunger, both for human beings and for animals, which are part of the same cycle, which is why we are motivated by being able to count on allies such as the Food Bank with whom we not only share this objective , but also the efforts to put it into action and make it a reality”, affirmed the director of Corporate Affairs for the north of Latin America of ADM.

Regarding the new refrigeration and frozen system, the executives of both entities reported that the cold room measures approximately 49 square meters; and its volume is around 118 cubic meters.

Regarding the division of the system, they reported that the storage room at medium temperature has 8oC, 36 square meters and 86.4 cubic meters of volume; and, at low temperature, it registers from -20 oC to -18 oC, 12.6 square meters and 30 cubic meters of volume.

It should be noted that the paneling and refrigeration equipment are European and of the highest quality. In fact, the refrigeration equipment responds to the Intarcom brand, of Spanish manufacture, which are independent for better control, according to the needs of each case.

Meanwhile, the paneling is from the DC Systema brand, also made in Spain, which offers excellent airtightness inside the room, which facilitates temperature and humidity control, and minimizes the loss of cold from the chamber. On your side, the optimal design of the pipes ensures the best use of equipment and space; and the durability of cold rooms range between 10 and 15 years, if maintenance is up to date.

“Food insecurity is a problem that is on the rise in many countries around the world, which is why from ADM Cares we seek to amplify actions aligned with the second United Nations Sustainable Development Goal: zero hunger, one of the seven for which we We rule on the foundation. Being able to be part of this initiative with the Food Bank brings us closer to meeting the goal,” added Jennifer Ballinger, director of the ADM Cares Foundation.

During the act, the representatives of both institutions expressed their satisfaction at working together in favor of the fight against hunger; as well as, in order to avoid the loss and waste of food and food insecurity in the Dominican Republic.

With this event, the global company and the Dominican Republic Food Bank begin a collaborative effort to bring food and provide the necessary resources for the benefit of the most vulnerable communities in terms of food security.
