Acofave supports the Intrant in the process of vehicle technical inspection

The Dominican Association of Vehicle Manufacturers Dealers (Acofave) expressed its support for the decision made by the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) to open the bidding process for the implementation of the vehicle technical inspection.

The union understands that this measure would help reduce traffic accidents, which are the second cause of death and one of the main problems facing the country.

“We support the will of the government exercised through the Intrant to implement, through the Vehicle Technical Inspection, the application of Law 63-17, which requires that motor vehicles be technically reviewed every year by specialized workshops, certifying its correct functioning, which will have repercussions in favor of the mobility and transport of passengers in more optimal and safe units”, expressed Yris González, executive director of Acofave

In turn, he stressed the benefits of implementing the program, stating that the initiative “guarantees the minimum safety conditions for the vehicles that travel through our streets, avenues and highways, so that they meet the basic criteria of design and manufacturing”. He explained that this would reduce mechanical failures, guaranteeing its proper operation, increasing road safety and renewing the vehicle fleet “towards a more modern and less polluting one.”

In this sense, he reiterated the conviction of the union he leads and its members that the implementation of this measure will help mitigate the effects of climate change, as well as the reduction of polluting emissions, traffic congestion and fuel consumption.

“We believe it is necessary for the country to focus on a regulation that accesses the measurement and
control of exhaust gases and pollutant emissions from vehicles, as is done in developed countries. The installation of the mandatory inspection program could be the starting point to adopt the correct measures and restrict the movement of automotive units that are not fit for circulation ”, he added.

González reiterated Acofave’s commitment to assist in the implementation of the Vehicle Technical Inspection program and any other measure that is beneficial to citizens and the environment.
