A year of 0-5 against Ibiza that cost José Alberto his job

January 24 may go unnoticed by many people in Malaga, but the truth is that it is a “marked” day in Martiricos. Not so much because of what happened on that date in 2022, but rather because of everything that has happened since then in all levels of Málaga CF. And it is that this Tuesday marks the 365th day of the dismissal of José Alberto López as coach of the blue and white bench and the beginning of a “horribilis” year in Martiricos.

The team began the 21/22 season in an almost idyllic way, hobnobbing with the playoff spots until the lousy home run came. However, the culmination of everything was the one that ended the Asturian coach: the 0-5 against UD Ibiza at La Rosaleda. Whistles, handkerchiefs and a multitude of chants ended in one of the darkest episodes in the club’s recent history.

Since then, the course has been totally disoriented. I arrive natxo lopez and it was just over two months, Pablo Guede landed and the team was saved by demerit from the rivals. However, when everything suggested that it was possible to take flight, the plane did nothing but plummet. 3 out of 18 possible points for the Argentinian and a new coach as Pepe Mel that he has not known how to hit the key.

Aleix Febas, Rubén Castro, Esteban Burgos, Alex Gallar, Fran Villalba, the recovery of Luis Muñoz… Málaga CF had everything to be, at least, in the middle of the table. Everything like for example the sixth highest salary cap in the category. However, these footballers are as good as the errors in the sports management led by Manolo Gaspar when it comes to making the squad are evident.

The reflection of what this last year has been for Málaga CF is evident. They have only won 3 games!! before his fans at La Rosaleda in the last 365 days. Practically all the LaLiga SmartBank teams have passed through the Costa del Sol and the team has only managed to beat Lugo, Ponferradina and Alavés in one year.

In short, 365 days of martyrdom for a hobby that continues to push and fight to return the team to where it belongs. «Málaga CF cannot fight for permanence. It can’t be what happened this year. That’s not the objective» were the words of Manolo Gaspar in June 2022. A year to be forgotten… and what seems to remain.
