68-year-old man paid 2 million 872 thousand 73 TL to increase his height by 9 centimeters

A 68-year-old man named Roy Conn in the USA increased his height from 1.70 centimeters to 1.79 after 3 months of painful bone lengthening surgery. Conn paid 130 thousand British Pounds (2 million 872 thousand 73 TL) for the operation performed with the fracture of two femurs.

“IT WAS VERY PAINFUL”

“Why would a happily married man approaching his 70s undergo such a painful surgery?” Conn said, “My short stature wasn’t a big problem for me, I didn’t have an obsession with it and you’re right, I’ve had the opportunity to afford this surgery before in my life, but this time came. My wife was more worried about the surgery than me, she loved me as I am, but I wanted this surgery for myself, not for others.” “It was very difficult at first and yes, it was definitely pretty painful. But I got over it,” said Roy.

EXTENDED 1 MILLIMETER DAY

Speaking about the surgery, Conn’s surgeon, leg extension specialist Dr. Kevin Debiparshad said, “Such an operation takes about 1.5 hours to complete. The patient goes through a lengthening period after the surgery, during which time he grows about 1 millimeter per day. It takes 25 days to achieve about 3 cm, and about two and a half to achieve 9 cm length. It takes months,” he said.

WHAT IS LENGTH EXTENSION SURGERY?

Lengthening surgery is an orthopedic surgery performed to lengthen the bones of the arms and legs, usually for therapeutic purposes and sometimes for aesthetic reasons, in individuals with closed growth plates. Lengthening is done by surgically cutting the bone and separating the cut bone pieces in a long process, around 1 millimeter each day. Thus, new bone tissue is formed in the opened space and bone elongation is provided. The formation of new bone by pulling the bones apart is called distraction osteogenesis.

CAN BE EXTENDED UP TO 10 CM

If the lengthening is planned to be up to 8 cm, surgery can only be applied to the thigh or shinbone. If an extension of more than 10 cm is desired, both bones will need to be lengthened. Lengthening is done for bones only. Muscles, ligaments, nerves, vessels, and other soft tissues automatically adapt to lengthening, as they are attached to the bones and the process is done gradually, gradually. For this purpose, the process is made easier by applying physiotherapy to the relevant area.
